I’ve been in a crochet funk for the past couple of days. Instead of actually crocheting, I found myself going around in circles about what pattern to start and which yarn to use. So I -gasp- took a break from yarn. It’s been an interesting change of pace, but now I’m back with a fresh mind and a new dishcloth!
This is the Double Trouble Dishcloth, made with Sugar ‘n Cream in Hot Purple. With four different rows, the pattern stitch was entertaining enough without being difficult. I added a couple single crochet rounds to the border to square off the dishcloth. In hindsight, a simple shell border or even a picot stitch would have been a better option.
The whole FO is on the large side. If I crocheted this pattern again I would use a smaller hook size to get a firmer fabric. The shells feel a little loose, but since no gauge is given I can’t say for sure if the designer intended for the dishcloth to be more compact.

The Origami Hot Pad is a fast crochet pattern that makes a sturdy and practical hot pad. This is the type of pattern that makes a great mindless project, since it is made completely of single crochet. I used Sugar ‘n Cream in Hot Green and Key Lime Pie.
The hot pad is started with a chain of thirty-five and made by crocheting continuously in rounds. By folding the resulting pouch, the ends meet and you get a double thickness hot pad. I’ve seen other versions that have a little loop added to hang. I’d love to make more of these with lots of coordinating stripes.

The dishcloths are great! The double thickness one looks very sturdy. The other one looks like it would be a great placemant if it was bigger.
I know what you mean about being in a funk. I haven’t touched a stitch since Saturday. Instead of crocheting, I just keep looking at patterns.
I disagree with you about the border of the Double Trouble dishcloth. I think the wide sc border gives a very pretty sort of geometric contrast to the lacy shells. And that’s my favorite hot pad to make!
Sorry to hear about the funk. Glad you found something. Those are really nice. Have a great de-funk day! :-)
I LOVE the green hotpad. It almost looks like its camoflauge. So cool!
Oh, I love the hot pad and the colors you used. Thanks for posting that, I have been wanting to make a hotpad but just havent’ gotten around to looking for a good pattern. I know what you mean about a funk, it happens to me all the time. I usually try to divide my time between crochet, sewing, reading, and scrapbooking. That way when i get tired of one, I have something else to work on.
The Origami Hot Pad looks very similar to some I inherited from my grandmother’s kitchen – I’ll have to try that out!
I have some origami hot pads that a friend made for me ages ago. I always wondered how she made them. I need to go look at the pattern and give one a try!
I like that hot pad very much!!!!
I just finished one of those hot pads — and posted it on the blog.
(Insert something about great minds!)
How pretty that lavender dishcloth is! You do such a great job with your dishcloths. I also crocheted one of those double-thick potholders/dishcloths, but haven’t posted it on my blog because it’s part of a PIF gift.
Don’t feel bad about the crocheting funk – I get in those every now and then too.
Hi Laurah,
Thanks for the comment on my blog! If you go to http://www.mrfunky.com, you can preview that amigurumi book.
Oops, it’s actually http://www.misterfunky.com.
Sorry!
Hi, don’t you feel bad when you go to use the dishcloth and have to mess it up (because they’re so pretty)? Or do you guys just make them for fun? Just curious! :)
Look at those pretty dishcloths great job Laura love them both cute.:)
Pam, I can’t speak for Laurah, but I use all of mine! Pretty and practical. They last forever. I make natural colored ones for cleaning around the house!! That way I can bleach them with no worries. It allows me to indulge in a hobby, try out different stitches, and make something useful. Hubby thinks it’s silly, of course.
Great color for the hot pad. The dishcloth is very pretty.
I’m in a crochet funk myself. I may have to try that hotpad soon, though.
love those pads, excellent quality!
