I got lost walking around in Seattle today. I’m very good at getting lost but luckily my brother was with me. We were on our way to visit our cousin Erika in South Seattle, but made a pit stop around Pike and 6th to have a look around.
Isn’t this manhole cover pretty? I wanted to take a clear picture but felt kind of silly on my toes, holding a camera at arms length, so I took the stealth way out and settled with a blurry version.

After sightseeing and stopping to play a few games at the Gameworks Video Arcade we got a little turned around. We were able to back track with the help of a few friendly Seattleites, but by my estimate I would say we walked around for three hours, one-third of that in a confused state. If I have learned one thing today, it’s that Seattle is not a flat city!
*That’s cool* a random fact
Seattleites buy more sunglasses per capita than any other city in the United States.

For a split second, when I saw the first picture, I thought, hey Laura came to NY? My husband has this thing for Seattle even though he’s never been there. Says he’d like to move there, again, even though he’s never been there.
That manhole cover is very pretty and I think the city must be well kept and pretty if they put that much effort into the manhole covers.
About getting lost, I do it all the time here. Its funny because you’d think living here all my life would make me an expert, but not so much. I can get anywhere on the subway and know my way around with my eyes closed so long as I’m underground. Unless its a usual stop for me (like home, work or a relatives place), the minute I’m out of the subway, I’m always disoriented. It feels silly but I’ll have to ask which way is which because all the streets in Manhattan (especially midtown) look the same! I’ll try to mask my Brooklyn accent while I’m asking so the person won’t think I’m an idiot NYer, ha!
Post more pics of Seattle if you have them. I’d love to see more.
We recently visited Seattle to see if it was a place that we would enjoy living. I must say I loved it! But you are right, it definitly is not flat. I was disoriented the whole time and kept asking which way was north. About the time we were heading home, I was finally able to figure out where we were. It is a lovely city. If it wasn’t they probably wouldn’t put that much effort into making such a lovely manhole cover.
I have never been to Seattle but my husband’s been there and wants to move there as well. But alas we are moving out East once he is done with school. Oh well nothing is permanent. That is a neat manhole cover. Thanks for the pics!
LOL, I get lost all of the time!! I am the worst when it comes to taking directions!
Christina – you can see my other pictures of Seattle in a slideshow on Photobucket. I didn’t get anything exciting like the Space Needle (never did make it to the water), but there’s picture of random buildings and streets.
I know this is an older post, but I was looking around your blog and was thrilled to see you live in the same corner I do. We currently call Pt Orchard home, but I’ve lived in and around Seattle my whole life. Nowadays, I only get into the city when I take my children the Seattle Children’s Theatre, but in my former life, I worked downtown and took walks during my lunch hour all around town.
Sorry to ramble..
